Here’s how to avoid this:

New Rules.

✅ Each person provides a brief update on the progress, next planned steps, and any help they will be needing.

Emphasis on BRIEF. These should be completed quickly without a bunch of conversations.

✅ Problems can be identified, but not solved in this meeting. Setup a follow up meeting with the required people to solve issues.

✅ Start on time and limit the extra chatter.

✅ Use a parking lot for follow up conversations.

✅ Use a facilitator to keep things moving and to politely cutoff longer discussions.

Used effectively, huddles can be a great way to stay engaged and keep a team connected.

Done poorly, they end up being time traps and waste.
