Setting a vision helps others understand the eventual destination. It helps to set expectations. It creates the opportunity of a shared vision and better collaboration to get to that future state.

Not sure how to share the vision? How about telling a story?

First, talk about the past and how work was done focusing on the teams/people where the change will occur.

Next, talk about how internal and external forces changed over time. Mention how this brought pain or lost opportunity.

Now, talk about the changes being made. What they are. Why they are being made. How you expect them to make a difference. Explain that the changes will be made with plenty of support for people impacted and that more information will be shared on an ongoing basis.

The End.

It doesn’t have to be perfect. Or super detailed. Or long.

Focus of including things people will remember. Talk about past and future experiences. Talk from the heart. Be empathetic and acknowledge that people might be feeling nervous and hesitant. Emphasize that you will listen and address their questions and concerns.

Have you heard a future vision being shared in this way? What impact would this have on you?
