Do you have teams that operate in silos at your company? Today I talk about how a strong set of company core values will make the problem solving process more effective and efficient to knock down the team silos.

Core values should be a “north star” or guiding light for the various teams involved in the discussion around desired outcomes and how they will work toward them.

At Matrix Technologies, Inc. we have a set of 31 core values called the Matrix Fundamentals that we all strive to live by each day. These fundamentals are our guiding light.

I will highlight 6 of these fundamentals here (and 6 more on my FREE Substack site) to showcase examples of the types of core values that should guide the problem solving process of siloed teams.

1. Do the right thing, always.
2. Listen Generously.
3. Speak Straight.
4. Walk In Other’s Shoes.
5. Assume Positive Intent.
6. Invest In Relationships.

Let’s bring this on home. Working through conflict is hard. Especially when there’s been a history of issues, challenges, and hard feelings between teams. But, it’s worth the effort. And, leveraging an agreed upon list of core values to lean on for the conversations throughout the problem solving process helps to make it more effective.

The fundamentals I share here (and the additional ones in Substack) are a great example of “guard rails” that can be used to keep the improvements on track and moving forward. You might need to find the ones that will work in your situation, but the important thing is that teams commit to following a set or core values throughout this process.

On Feb 17, I will post about the types of Ground Rules that are important in the problem solving process to knock down team silos.

I write about building high performing teams that benefit both team member growth and organizational results. Some of my sub-topics include #projectmanagement, #changemanagement, #facilitation, #digitaltransformation, #itotconvergence and #silos

I will deliver new posts on LinkedIn every Monday, Wednesday, and Friday, with more details about the post on my FREE Substack site.
