I’ve been reading the book Agile Retrospectives and have been posting on the topic of Retrospectives in LI lately.
I love the idea of pausing for reflection in both our work lives and personal lives. Until we pause, we are often too busy to really think about what we have learned from our experiences and what we want to change moving forward to make improvements.
Beyond work and personal, we could even take it a step further to help us reflect on our physical, emotional, spiritual, and mental lives.
I’m considering doing a monthly exercise to reflect on my journey, with the following prompting questions/metaphors from the sailboat exercise.
Sun – What are my strengths and how am I using them? How might I develop them further?
Coral Reef – What’s hiding below the surface in my life that could positively or negatively impact my journey? How might I protect myself and exploit my opportunities?
Anchor – What’s slowing me down or keeping me from reaching my goals? How might I move beyond this?
And finally, Wind – What energized me, influences me, motivates me to move forward, learn, and improve every day? How might I keep this going?
What do you think? Do you see value in this? What would you add or remove? What other self exercises might be good to add into the mix?
