Facilitators design meeting activities within time slots to cover instructions, activities, and wrap-ups. Keeping the activities within the allotted time keeps the meeting on track. When an activity goes over its’ planned time it often results in the compression of the remaining activities, extra stress, and less value than planned.
Here are 5 ways to avoid an activity going over the allotted time limit.
1. Make sure enough time has been allocated for activities.
2. Appoint a timekeeper to maintain awareness on the time.
3. Limit sharing to people’s neighbors instead of the whole group.
4. If sharing with the whole group, limit it to 2-3 people.
5. Set expectations about the timing at the start of the activity.
